Pathé City is a Pathé cinema at Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen 15-19 in Amsterdam, 40 meters from Leidseplein and diagonally opposite De Balie.
The cinema is located in the City Theater Building, a theatre building from 1935. Initially, it was set up with a single large theatre hall. The first film to run of Episode by director Walter Reisch starring Paula Wessely. In the 1950s, City was a popular entertainment district. The emphasis was on MGM and Disney films. The cinema had access to an orchestra pit with the City Theater Orchestra that provided music prior to the film under the direction of conductor Lex van Weren.
Cinema chain Pathe has been the owner since 1995. At the beginning of 2007, the building was closed for a major renovation. The last regular screening took place on 31 January 2007 and from 18 to 25 April 2007, the cinema hosted the 23rd Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival. The doors reopened on December 2, 2010, with seven rooms for arthouse films.
